Employment Opportunities at SmartRIA
Thank you for your interest in joining the Team at SmartRIA! We’re very passionate about having a great culture that attracts, supports and grows a talented, productive and happy Team. Please read on to learn more.
to be the best company in the world at simplifying compliance.
to be a place where people love to work and a company customers love to work with.
Our Core Values:
Authenticity: we seek authentic, transparent team member, supplier, and customer relationships based on mutual respect.
Integrity: we do what we say we are going to do. We cut no corners: quality or quit. We only sell what we would use ourselves.
Humility: have a servant’s heart and attitude with a “give before you get” posture.
Life-Long Learners: every team member is equal parts teacher, equal parts student.
Win Win: a deal is only successful when both parties mutually benefit. Win-lose = we lose. Always.
Happy Team Members make Happy Customers.
We Believe Great Cultures:
…treat team members like family, suppliers and customers like friends.
…are palpable with every interaction, and are guarded and nurtured with passion and ferocity.
…are to great companies what water and oxygen are to Earth.
…are the positive business environment created by being a good steward of what has been given to us as humans.
1) We are a great place to work and a great company to work with.
We treat each other like family and treat our customers like friends.
2) We do what is right.
We follow the Golden Rule: treat others as you would like to be treated. Every decision we make as a company is filtered through this prism.
3) We believe in freedom.
Every job has tasks, roles, and responsibilities to account for. Once those are agreed upon, Smartria believes the best team members thrive on freedom to seek their own path to success via their unique creative talents and skills.
Our team is self-regulating, self-starting and is able to function at high performance without micromanagement or constant oversight.
4) We work to live; we don’t live to work.
Work-life balance isn’t a platitude at Smartria; it’s a principle we live by. Every team member has the right and obligation to recharge their batteries and is encouraged to speak up when their life balance gets out of alignment.
5) We have transparent, respectful communication.
We value constructive feedback and respectful disagreement.
Ideas are always welcomed, but not always implemented.
We only say about others what we would say if they were present.
We seek first to understand before making a judgement. While this can be hard to live by, we are insistent on this level of respect.
We attack problems, not people.
6) We are humble.
Having humility is to have a servant’s heart. Our Mission helps us to serve others in a very meaningful way. Effective service cannot be accomplished with a huge ego.
7) We show our customers we care.
Without happy customers, we can’t survive, and our work loses its meaning.
We treat our customers like a good next-door neighbor: sometimes right, sometimes not, always highly respected and fairly treated.
Happy customers become life-giving, career-affirming, heart-warming Evangelists.
We create Evangelists from customers by being fair on Price, unwavering on Quality, and dedicated to Service.
We don’t accept:
Ego-driven behavior: people with a high need to be right are of no use to our organization. Arrogance destroys culture and morale in the same way that termites destroy houses.
Fear of Failure/Perfectionism: no one is perfect. We believe in grace and forgiveness; however, we do not accept hiding big mistakes or inactivity due to a fear of making mistakes.
Gossip: it is natural to talk about life, work and people, but talk is poisonous to relationships when it turns into character assassination.
Intolerance: diversity is the lifeblood of understanding and creativity. Those who cannot work with others who are different from them have no place here.
A few more things…
Our culture is not a bureaucracy. Titles are for the outside world. Inside, we are all under the same umbrella and we treat each other accordingly.
Loyalty is important; so is competency. Loyalty comes from liking and mutual respect. Liking and mutual respect come from competency, kindness and a consistently-full effort to produce our best work.
Life happens when we least expect, therefore grace is extended for rough patches.
Speak up to a fellow team member, regardless of position or duty, who is acting in a way that is incongruent with our values.
Reviews are critical to self understanding and continual improvement, and are performed quarterly based on the agreed upon goals, tasks and roles of each team member. Everyone has a right to know where they stand in the company.
We grow through exceptional people.
High-performance results require highly-capable people, who come from all races, colors, religions, creeds, nationalities, sexes and orientations.
A great team member can change the trajectory of our organization to a degree; a poor one has a much worse effect in the other direction.
It is difficult to work at Smartria: not because we are self-righteous or elitist, but because of the impact hiring poorly can have on the team as a whole.
Our interview process is slow, methodical, and intentional. We don’t hire people; we select them. Carefully.
Our process is to hire in the Top 10% based on the Smartria culture traits. We’ve found the top 10% stay in the top because they are dedicated and lifelong learners. If this is not who you are, it may be difficult to remain a member of our team.
What does a Top 10% person look like?
Candor with kindness: we are open-minded and honest to a fault. Candor with barbed words and tone, however, is unacceptable. Netflix calls exceptional workers who use candor as a weapon “brilliant jerks”, and they have no place at Smartria.
Constantly, respectfully asking “Why?”: we ask questions about why we do something to continually build a better process and to confirm we remain on course to achieve our Mission, Vision, Goals and Objectives.
Guerrillas, not drones: Guerrillas work with mission-and-culture-fueled passion, creativity and full effort; moving around, over, under and through obstacles in whatever ethical way is necessary to get the job done. Drones constantly seek instruction, reassurance and status quo comfort, and rarely achieve excellence.
Self aware: we understand our strengths and weaknesses and welcome similar others to accentuate our Team.
Work smart: we hire for cultural fit, objectives and goals, not for number of hours worked. “First one in, last one to leave” isn’t as important as the quality of work produced. Quantity of work does have its place, but never at the expense of life balance or quality.
Our Management Philosophy:
Our goal isn’t to manage people, but to teach them to lead themselves by pursuing mutually-agreed-upon goals with constructive feedback, direction and help from management as needed.
Self-starters will flourish. People who need lots of hand-holding will be frustrated, and ultimately will not fit in at Smartria.
We love sharing information and discussing it openly to find better ways of doing things and discover new best practices.
We don’t believe in hovering or micro-management. This is for low-ego organizations and people, and frankly, doesn’t scale well.
High output individuals thrive on smart, relevant goals. Therefore, we will always share these openly and ask for continual feedback to ensure we are heading in the right direction.
Vacation: take what you need to stay vigorous and on point. Be respectful of others who depend on you by discussing plans in advance whenever possible.
Sickness: medals are not given to people who come into the office sick. Stay home. Get well. Ask others for help when you are out unexpectedly.
Work anywhere: we support the freedom to work anywhere so long as the work produced meets the goals and objectives of the company and the individual. All we ask is for individuals to respond and be available as they are when working in person and that collaboration is in person when needed.
